GitHub Student Developer Pack

GitHub Student Developer Pack

GitHub Student Developer Pack gives verified students access to GitHub benefits and a collection of developer tools, learning platforms, cloud services, domains, and other partner offers.

GitHub Education is especially useful for storing your code, publishing projects with GitHub Pages, working in a ready-to-use development environment with Codespaces, and accessing additional developer tools through the Student Developer Pack.

You must be at least 13 and enrolled in a degree- or diploma-granting program, such as a high school, college, or university. Students in distance-learning or open-university programs may also qualify if their program grants a recognized degree or diploma and they can provide current proof of enrollment.

How to Apply

Start from the GitHub Student Developer Pack page and follow the application process for students.

You need a GitHub personal account and proof that you’re currently enrolled in an eligible educational program.

GitHub may verify your status using an academic email address or ask for documents such as:

  • a current student ID showing your enrollment date
  • a class schedule
  • a transcript
  • an enrollment or affiliation letter

If your institution does not issue an academic email address, or its domain is not recognized, follow GitHub’s verification instructions and provide the requested evidence.

Things to Know

Make Sure Your Documents Are Current

GitHub needs evidence that clearly shows your current student status.

Documents that are blurry, incomplete, or do not show a current enrollment date may be rejected. If your application is declined, read the reason provided, correct the missing information, and apply again with clearer or more suitable evidence.

Activate Time-Limited Offers When You Need Them

Many partner offers start their free or discounted period when you activate them.

If you claim an offer long before you plan to use it, part of the benefit may expire before you actually need it.

Partner Offers Have Their Own Terms

Each company sets its own eligibility rules, usage limits, renewal conditions, and restrictions.

Being approved for GitHub Education does not guarantee that every partner offer will remain available or keep the same terms.

Some Offers Cannot Be Renewed

If your GitHub Education access expires, you can reapply if you’re still eligible.

However, some partner offers may be limited to a single redemption and may not become available again after renewal.

You Don’t Need to Activate Everything

The Pack contains many tools, but you do not need all of them.

Start with the tools that match what you’re currently learning or building, then return to the Pack when you need something new.

What You Get

GitHub’s Own Benefits

GitHub Pro

Verified students receive GitHub Pro while they remain eligible.

It gives you access to additional GitHub features beyond the standard Free plan and can become more useful as your projects and portfolio grow.

GitHub Codespaces

Codespaces gives you a cloud-based development environment connected to your GitHub repositories.

This means you can open a repository and start coding in a ready-to-use environment without setting everything up locally.

Students receive additional Codespaces usage through GitHub Education.

GitHub Copilot Student

Verified students can access GitHub Copilot Student.

Copilot provides AI-assisted features such as code completion, chat, and coding support while you work. Available models, usage limits, and included features can change, so check the current Copilot Student terms for details.

GitHub Pages

GitHub Pages lets you publish websites directly from a GitHub repository.

This is particularly useful because you can keep your source code on GitHub and publish a live version of your project for others to view.

GitHub Pages is already available for public repositories on GitHub Free, so it is not exclusive to the Student Developer Pack. GitHub Pro also expands Pages support to private repositories.

Partner Offers

The Student Developer Pack includes many third-party offers. Available tools and terms change over time, so check the current Pack before activating one.

Developer Tools

The Pack includes professional developer tools from companies such as JetBrains and other development-tool providers.

If you’re interested in WebStorm, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, or other JetBrains tools, see the JetBrains Student Pack guide for eligibility, licensing, and non-commercial alternatives.

Cloud, Hosting, and Infrastructure

Offers may include cloud credits, hosting benefits, databases, and infrastructure tools from providers such as Microsoft Azure, Heroku, and MongoDB.

These are useful when you want to move beyond static projects and experiment with APIs, databases, backend services, deployment, or full-stack projects.

Domains

Providers such as Namecheap and Name.com offer domain-related student benefits through the Pack.

A custom domain can be useful when you want to turn your projects into a more personal portfolio or publish a project under its own address.

Learning Platforms

The Pack includes learning offers from platforms such as Master.dev, Scrimba, Boot.dev, DataCamp, and other education providers.

These offers may provide free access for a limited period, student discounts, or additional learning resources.

Master.dev, formerly Frontend Masters, is especially relevant if you’re learning frontend, backend, JavaScript, or other web-development topics.

Notion

GitHub Education may also include additional Notion student benefits.

See the Notion guide for the main Education Plan requirements and how GitHub-related benefits fit alongside Notion’s own student verification.
