In short

This site uses no tracking, advertising, or profiling cookies, and no third-party advertising networks. Sponsor placements on the site and in the newsletter are served from our own servers and set no cookies. Visit statistics are collected without cookies: anonymous for visitors, linked to the member account for signed-in members. Personal data is processed only to run the site (membership, the newsletter and short-lived server logs), and only to the minimum extent necessary.

What we process

• Membership: When you become a member, your email address and (if provided) your name are stored, along with the page you signed up from. Sign-in works via magic link; no passwords are stored.
• Comments: Comments you write are stored and published in association with your member profile.
• Newsletter: If you subscribe, delivery records are kept (whether each email was delivered, bounced or led to an unsubscribe). Our emails contain no tracking: no open-tracking pixel and no tracked links, so we do not know whether you opened an email or what you clicked in it. You can unsubscribe with the link at the bottom of every email.
• Server logs: Like every web server, the site keeps technical logs (IP address, requested page, browser type) for security and troubleshooting. They are kept only briefly, for as long as security and troubleshooting require (see How long we keep data), and are not used for profiling.

Cookies

This site uses no cookies for tracking, advertising, or profiling. Only strictly necessary first-party cookies are used for session management:

• ghost-members-ssr and ghost-members-ssr.sig: keep your session active when you sign in as a member; not set for visitors who are not signed in.
• ghost-admin-api-session: set only for team members signing in to the admin panel.

A visitor who does not sign in browses this site without receiving any cookies.

Local storage in your browser

To remember your preferences and to let pages open without a connection, this site keeps a small amount of data in your browser. None of it is used for tracking:

• Display preferences: your theme (light or dark), code-block skin, and text size choices. These stay on your device.
• Reading progress: the list of posts you have marked as done, used to show the done marks and progress counts on the site's cards. If you are signed in, this list is also saved to your account so it follows you across devices (see Data sharing); otherwise it stays on your device.
• Offline copies: pages and site files you have opened are kept in your browser's cache so they open again without a connection. They are never sent to us.

Clearing your browser's site data removes all of this from your device. The only part kept on our servers is a signed-in member's reading progress, which belongs to the account and is deleted with it.

Analytics

Visit statistics are collected with a first-party, cookie-free system (Ghost's built-in analytics; the data is stored by Tinybird in EU regions). Each page view records the page address, the referring page, your browser's user-agent string, your language and country, and, when you are signed in, your member ID and membership status:

• No cookies or persistent browser storage are used. Visitors are told apart within a 24-hour window by a one-way hash of the IP address, the user-agent string and a salt that changes every day; the IP address itself is not stored, and the day's salt is discarded afterwards, so the hash cannot be traced back to you later.
• The user-agent string is stored with the page view and is used to derive the browser, operating system and device type shown in the statistics.
• For visitors who are not signed in, the statistics are anonymous.
• For signed-in members, page views are recorded with the member ID, so the statistics are pseudonymous: they show which pages members read. They are used only to understand content performance, they are not used to build profiles, and they are never shared with sponsors or anyone else.

Advertising and sponsorship

The site and the newsletter may carry sponsor placements and advertising, sold directly by us and always labeled as such. There are no third-party advertising networks: a sponsor placement is text and images that we host on our own servers; it runs no scripts, sets no cookies and collects nothing about you. What a sponsor receives from us is aggregate figures only: how many times the pages carrying their placement were viewed and, for the newsletter, how many subscribers the issue was sent to. Our emails contain no open or click tracking, so there are no engagement figures to report; a sponsor measures visits to its own site by its own means, for example with parameters in the link it gives us. No personal data, no member data and no individual engagement records are ever shared with a sponsor. If you follow a sponsor's link, you leave this site, and from that point on the sponsor's own privacy policy applies.

Legal bases

Where EU or UK data protection law applies, our legal bases are: performance of our agreement with you for membership, comments and the done-read list saved to your account (contract); your consent for the newsletter, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link; and our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used, keeping it secure and funding it, served by the cookie-free visit statistics, the short-lived server logs and the aggregate page-view and subscriber counts reported to sponsors as described above.

Data sharing

Your data is never shared with third parties for advertising; sponsors receive aggregate figures only, as described above. Data is processed by the infrastructure providers we use for hosting, content delivery and email, solely to provide the service and in their capacity as data processors. The site runs on Ghost(Pro), the managed hosting service of the Ghost Foundation; its network runs on DigitalOcean, with servers located in the Netherlands. Fastly, the content delivery network in front of it, and jsDelivr, which serves the script files of the sign-up and search widgets, deliver files to your browser. Mailgun sends the newsletter and the sign-in emails, and Tinybird stores, in EU regions, the visit statistics described above (anonymous for visitors, pseudonymous for signed-in members). Cloudflare stores, for signed-in members, the list of reads they mark as done, keyed by a hashed form of the email address (pseudonymous rather than anonymous: the list is deleted together with the account). When voluntary support payments open, they will be handled by our payment processor Stripe; card details will go directly to Stripe and never reach our servers. The site is operated from the United States, and these providers may process data in the United States or the European Union. Where EU or UK data protection law applies, such transfers rely on the safeguards in the providers' data processing terms, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or EU-US Data Privacy Framework certification.

How long we keep data

We keep personal data only for as long as the purpose it was collected for requires. Where a period below is still being confirmed, it is because it is set by a provider rather than by us; we will state it here as soon as it is confirmed rather than guess.

• Membership data (email, name, newsletter choice, sign-up source, sign-in history): for as long as your account exists, and removed within 30 days of a deletion request.
• Done-read list: for as long as your account exists; removed with the account.
• Comments: published for as long as the site exists; the link to your profile is removed when the account is deleted (see Account deletion and anonymization).
• Newsletter delivery records: the sending log of each issue (your address and whether that email was delivered or bounced) is kept by the platform as part of the issue's records and is not removed by account deletion. We are confirming with our hosting provider whether these entries can be removed on request and will state the outcome here.
• Suppression list: if an email to you bounces or you report an email as spam, your address is placed on a suppression list (address, reason and date) so that no further email is sent to it. It is kept, on our platform and at our email provider, for as long as it serves that purpose, including after your account is deleted, and is removed when you ask us to send to that address again. A normal unsubscribe creates no such entry: it is part of your membership record and is removed with it.
• Server logs: kept briefly by our hosting provider for security and troubleshooting; the exact period is being confirmed.
• Visit statistics: page-view events are kept to measure how content performs over time; the analytics system defines no automatic expiry, and we are confirming whether Ghost(Pro) applies a limit of its own. The member ID recorded on a signed-in member's page views is a random identifier that only the member record can resolve to a person; when the account is deleted, that record goes and the past page views can no longer be connected to anyone. Aggregated figures (page views per page, visitors per day) are kept indefinitely.
• Email correspondence with hello@frontendmentorsolutions.io: two years after the matter is closed. Records of data-protection requests (who asked for what, and when) are kept for three years so that we can show they were handled.
• Backups: our hosting provider's backups are isolated from any further processing and expire on the provider's schedule, which is being confirmed.
• Payment records: none today. When support payments open, transaction records will be kept for the period tax law requires, and this section will say so.

Account deletion and anonymization

You can request account deletion at any time at hello@frontendmentorsolutions.io; requests are answered within 30 days at the latest. When your account is deleted, your membership record (email, name, profile details, sign-in and subscription history) is removed, along with your done-read list stored at Cloudflare. The delivery log entries of newsletter issues you received, and any suppression-list entry for your address, are not removed by that step (see How long we keep data). Page views recorded while you were signed in stay in the visit statistics under a random member identifier that nothing can resolve to you once the record is gone. Your comments remain published, as described in the Terms of Use, with the link to your profile removed: they show no name or avatar and are no longer connected to your account. Removing that link does not change the text itself, so a comment whose wording identifies you, directly or indirectly, is redacted or removed on request.

Children

Creating an account requires being at least 13 years old, or older where your country sets a higher minimum age for consenting to the processing of personal data, as stated in the Terms of Use. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below that age; if you believe a child has created an account, email hello@frontendmentorsolutions.io and the account will be deleted.

Your rights

Under applicable data protection law, you have the right to access your data, request its correction or deletion, restrict or object to processing, receive the data you provided in a portable format, and withdraw consent where processing rests on it. If you are in the EU or the UK, you can also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. You can send requests to hello@frontendmentorsolutions.io; requests are answered within 30 days at the latest.

Changes

When this policy is updated, the change is published on this page with its date; significant changes are announced to members.
